Mooie overzichtskaart van alleen Tibet met Bhutan en Nepal met fraai kleurgebruik voor hoogte en reliëf. De kaart is tweetalig en heeft een groot aantal plaatsen, topografisch zonder meer goed.
Tibet in a series of indexed regional maps of China from Gizi Map, in a road edition with relief shading which makes all the place names stand out better against a lighter background. The map provides an alternative to the altitude colouring used in the geographical edition of this title which follows the presentation used for other regions of China. Most place names are also shown in local versions, with the Tibetan language included in the multilingual legend. The maps extend south to include the whole of Nepal and Bhutan.
In the remaining part of this series, including the geographical edition of Tibet, bold altitude colouring with spot heights plus names of mountain ranges and other geographical features provides an excellent picture of the terrain. De landenserie TE GAST IN is uitgebreid met een uitgave over Bhutan. Het is de eerste Nederlandstalige reisuitgave over het Himalaya koninkrijk. De eerste exemplaren van deze uitgave zijn zaterdag 26 februari j.l. in ontvangst genomen door de heer Sonam Tobden Rabgye, ambassadeur van Bhutan in Brussel, en Erica Terpstra, overtuigd boeddhist en binnenkort voor Omroep Max op reis in Bhutan. Dat gebeurde tijdens de jaarlijkse Bhutan-dag die dit jaar in Scheveningen plaatsvond. Het boekje werd overhandigd door Cécile de Boer, samenstelster van de uitgave, die vijf jaar in Bhutan heeft gewoond.
Bhutan is in meerdere opzichten een bijzondere reisbestemming. Met de visie van Bruto Nationaal Geluk profileert het land zich al jaren met duurzame ontwikkeling. Door van elke bezoeker een verplichte dagelijkse reissom te eisen, lukt het de overheid de toeristenstroom in de hand te houden. Niet voor niets dat Bhutan wel The last Shangri La wordt genoemd.
Verwevenheid cultuur en religie
Wat direct opvalt is het boeddhisme dat alom aanwezig is. In dzongs (kloosterburchten), lakhangs (tempeltjes) en in huizen komen we voortdurend de manifestaties van de Boeddha tegen. Ook overal aanwezig zijn de fallussymbolen die verwijzen naar lama Drukpa Kunley, een populaire heilige uit de vijftiende eeuw, die op onorthodoxe wijze de boeddhistische leer verspreidde. Dat religie en cultuur innig met elkaar verweven zijn merken we tijdens de tshechu's, de kleurrijke festivals, waarbij monniken zowel de boeddhistische leer als oude mythen en legendes uitbeelden.
Gho's en kira's
Bijzonder in Bhutan is de traditionele wijze waarop de bevolking gekleed is. Veel mannen dragen gho's terwijl vrouwen stijlvolle kira's dragen. Deze manier van kleding is mede een uitvloeisel van de One Nation One People-politiek uit 1988, waarmee de overheid bepaalde dat iedere Bhutanees zich moest aanpassen aan de culturele gedrags- en kledingvoorschriften van de Drukpa, de etnische groep die op politiek en cultureel gebied altijd het meest bepalend is geweest.
Beschermd natuurgebied
Natuurbescherming is een belangrijke pijler van het Bruto Nationaal Geluk principe voor ontwikkeling in Bhutan. De regering heeft ruim 40 procent van het land aangewezen als beschermd natuurgebied. Voor natuurliefhebbers valt er in Bhutan dan ook veel te genieten. Het land kent een uitgebreid netwerk van voetpaden dat sinds eeuwen dalen met elkaar verbindt.
